Model Overview

The ONVO L90 is the second model introduced by NIO's sub-brand ONVO. Positioned as a full-size pure electric SUV, it is built on NIO's NT3.0 platform. The vehicle made its initial market debut in the second half of 2025, followed by the official launch of the 2026 ONVO L90 on 21 April 2026. The line-up comprises five variants, available in both six-seater and seven-seater configurations. Complete vehicle purchase is priced from RM265,800 to RM299,800, while opting for the BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) subscription scheme lowers the starting price significantly to RM179,800 to RM213,800. As ONVO's flagship SUV, the L90 is tasked with capturing market share in the RM300,000-bracket large SUV segment, banking on its core competitive pillars of "battery swap capability, generous cabin space, and advanced intelligence".
Design Language
The ONVO L90 features the brand's signature closed-off front fascia, highlighted by "Starry Trail" split-type interactive pixel headlights that integrate adaptive high beam, dynamic cornering lights, and interactive light language to enhance its visual identity. The 2026 model introduces two dual-tone exterior colourways, Purple-Gold Dual-Tone and Silver-Purple Dual-Tone, applied using BASF bespoke paints and an 11-layer smart spraying process. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,786 mm in height, with a generous 3,110 mm wheelbase. Up front, it offers a 240-litre washable front boot (frunk) with a secure, partitioned storage design. Standard across the range are autonomous driving blue indicator lights on the wing mirrors, a choice of five wheel designs, and an exclusive Black Knight styling package.
Inside, the cabin adopts a wraparound luxury cockpit layout inspired by the "Urban Oasis" design philosophy. The interior blends premium materials, including real wood trims, soft-glow titanium accents, and leather upholstery. Nappa leather seats with handcrafted contrast stitching come standard across all variants.
Powertrain and Performance
Underpinned by a full-domain 900V high-voltage architecture, the ONVO L90 is equipped with an 85 kWh battery pack as standard across the range. Two drivetrain options are available: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD):
RWD Version: Driven by a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 340 kW, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds, with a CLTC-rated range of 600 km to 605 km
AWD Version: Generates a combined system output of 440 kW (front 100 kW / rear 340 kW) and 535 Nm of peak torque, capable of a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.7 seconds, with a CLTC-rated range of 570 km
Energy consumption is rated at a frugal 14.5 kWh/100 km for the RWD variant and 15.4 kWh/100 km for the AWD variant. For charging, it supports a 25-minute fast charge (10% to 80% SoC) and 3-minute battery swapping. As of April 2026, the ONVO network boasts 2,443 battery swap stations, including over 1,000 located along highways.
Chassis and Handling
The ONVO L90 rides on the Floating Cloud Smart Chassis, utilising a front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension setup. Standard equipment across all variants includes a smart air suspension with 100 mm travel adjustment and Continuous Damping Control (CCD). Managed via four-domain centralised computing powered by the SkyOS·Tianshu system, the chassis provides instantaneous dynamic adjustments. A total of 10 driving modes are available to tackle diverse road conditions. Media reviews noted that the suspension effectively irons out minor road imperfections, maintains composure over road humps, and delivers excellent secondary vibration control.
Cabin and Features
On the multimedia and connectivity front, the ONVO L90 comes fitted with the Coconut 3.0 and Coconut+ 3.0 intelligent cabin systems, running on the SkyOS·Tianshu full-domain vehicle operating system. The digital cockpit consists of a four-screen setup comprising a 35-inch AR-HUD, a 17.2-inch 3K central infotainment touchscreen, a 17.3-inch 3K fold-down ceiling screen for the second row, and an 8-inch rear control display. Higher-spec variants are powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset (delivering 60 TOPS of AI compute).
Audiophiles are catered to by the ONVO Sound Premium Audio system, packing 23 speakers with a total amplifier output of 2,048W. In terms of comfort, seat heating is standard across all rows, with the front two rows gaining seat ventilation and massage functions. The second row features zero-gravity captain chairs, while the third-row backrests recline up to 38°. Other convenience features include tri-zone smart automatic climate control, an 8.8-litre onboard smart electric fridge/warmer (offering wide-range temperature control from -18°C to 50°C), and a 30-litre hidden underfloor boot cooler. Total front and rear storage capacity stands at 670 litres.
Safety and Intelligent Driving
Safety-wise, the ONVO L90 is constructed with a steel-aluminium hybrid ultra-rigid safety cell, incorporating 2,000 MPa submarine-grade thermoformed steel in critical load-bearing areas. An integrated die-cast aluminium body structure further bolsters structural integrity. The vehicle has also earned a five-star safety rating from CATARC.
Intelligent driving assistance represents the headline upgrade for the 2026 model. The SUV offers two ADAS hardware packages:
Pro Version (Vision-Only System) : Powered by a single NVIDIA Drive Orin X chip (254 TOPS)
Max+ / Ultra+ Versions (LiDAR Fusion System) : Equipped with a roof-mounted watchtower LiDAR (detection range exceeding 200 metres), NIO's in-house 5nm automotive-grade chip "Shenji NX9031" (delivering over 1,000 TOPS, equivalent to more than four Orin X chips), the NIO World Model (NWM), and the SkyOS·Tianshu operating system
Sensor hardware on high-spec variants includes seven 8-megapixel HD cameras and a 4D imaging millimetre-wave radar, supporting Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) across urban and highway scenarios. Existing 2025 L90 first owners are also entitled to exclusive repurchase and trade-in incentives.
Market Performance and Reception
The ONVO L90 enjoyed a strong sales start upon its initial market debut. In its first full delivery month, it clocked 10,575 units, setting the record for the fastest NIO-backed model to surpass the 10,000-unit monthly mark. Deliveries peaked in October 2025 with an impressive 11,722 units, pushing cumulative sales past 50,000 units within just eight months of launch.
However, momentum cooled in subsequent months, with deliveries dropping to 5,970 units in November 2025 and 4,105 units in December. By January 2026, total ONVO brand sales stood at just 3,481 units, representing a 62% month-on-month (MoM) decrease and a 41% year-on-year (YoY) decline. Industry observers attribute the slowdown to intensifying market competition and the waning novelty of the initial launch.
Motoring media reviews have lauded the ONVO L90 for its class-competitive dimensions, generous cabin space, and strong powertrain figures, with the BaaS battery subscription scheme significantly lowering the barrier to entry. Nonetheless, some early user feedback highlighted quirks in the vision-only ADAS setup, noting instances of unnecessary lane-straddling and aggressive lane changes. Overall, as ONVO's flagship contender, the L90 establishes a distinctive niche in the large electric SUV market through its balanced mix of "abundant space, battery swapping convenience, and high-level intelligence".
